National 2012 Weather Records

Maine was among the top 10 states for record-breaking heat in 2012, the hottest year on record nation-wide. Nine Maine counties saw new highs or lows in temperature or rainfall, according to a study by the Natural Resources Defense Council, which compiled data on heat, snowfall, rain, drought and wildfires. Others states in the top 10 for heat included Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
